After market security. Fuses? under steering column

My jimmy had a rat's nest of wiring, modules, fuses, and unrecognizable burnt components spliced into everywhere. I removed it all and it turned out to be an antique remote start system.
|
dug deeper into it and found viper security and dei remote start. Disabled the viper
|
That's about how mine looked minus the fuses! I started with one wire that was clearly added later in life and just kept going until everything that didn't belong was gone:)

Personally in my region I consider a remote starter essential equipment, but I also did professional installs of them for 5 years. Looking at that picture I'd say it wasn't the greatest install job; especially if it includes security. Any half-competent thief could bypass that install in less than 20 seconds.

All I did was unplug the longest connecter from the viper box and the truck started

Sounds like the anti-theft relay was engaged. That just interrupts the starter wire from the ignition, and also serves as an anti-starter-grind if you accidentally turn the key too far after remote starting the vehicle. If you wanted to disarm the system and use it, with the remote for the Viper/DEI system just press unlock. If you need to disarm it without the remote but want to keep it functional you can turn on the key to RUN and tap the programming button once (if it was included by the original installer). If you just want to disable it completely and leave it, then unplugging the main harness like you did or pulling the 10 amp fuse in the main harness will accomplish this. |
Thanks for the info. Dont have the remote, so just gonna leave it as is. Its runningand thats good enough for me
