Windshield wipers intermittent issue
 

'03 with pulse wipers. Occasionally the wipers will not shut off in response to the switch- they default to low speed constant operation mode. I can get them to go off if I stop and restart the engine, thereby killing power to the wiper circuit. After that, the wipers behave, usually for several uses, but eventually they go thru the above sequence.



Since diagnosis requires the malfunction to be occurring, and killing the ignition restores normal function, I'm never in a position to troubleshoot when the problem happens, as I'm typically on the road. I suspect the circuit board on the wiper motor, but can't rule out a switch problem. Anyone out there ever run into this?

My guess would be the circuit board on the wiper motor. Above is a link to a great walkthrough on how to repair them. I did it on my jimmy and it took less than an hour, cost me nothing, and fixed my issue

I went thru this several years ago.

I resoldered some of the cold solder joints that were open and it helped for a few months. (Maybe I didn't do the greatest job at it?)

Anywho, I ended up just ordering a new pulse board from Amazon...about 8-9 bucks, if I recall. Has worked like new since!

I am fighting the same issue and am ready to just buy a new board... I've tried several used ones from the salvage yard (I work there so they're easy to come by :P ), even a couple low mileage ones, they've all had their quirks from staying on to missing speeds, and I've tried resoldering a couple of them and they still had issues. I've went as far as replacing the motor unit as well, AND the switch on the column (actually the main reason for that replacement was to install one with legible lettering on it lol) and I still have intermittent issues.

Thanks to all who responded. I'll try the soldering since it costs nothing. When that fails, I'll buy a new board. BTW, a good source of automotive parts is www.rockauto.com.

Just got to this puppy today. In the meantime, I came across this: http://my.cardone.com/techdocs/PT%2040-0005.pdf. Since my issue is exactly as this bulletin describes, I cleaned the two contacts of old caked grease and, for good measure, straightened them slightly to get 1 1/8" inches (where they spec 1"). Time will tell whether this solves the issue.

Update- since doing this, the wipers have behaved just fine. If that changes, I'll post back.
