Won't start, electrical
 

So last week I got my transmission fixed and the guy doing the job says to me that he replaced my distributor cap cover for free (the old one had two busted bolt/screw sockets and was held on by other means which was done by the prior owner). Now 6 days later I pull into a gas station with no trouble until I try to crank the engine again. The radio and gauges work fine until I attempt to crank the engine. Then there is no noise from the starter and the gauges start jumping around and the radio/door alarms stop while the key is turned. For the sake of being thorough I had the battery charged and tried jumping it off with no results. I made certain there were no obvious loose connections and still nothing. Any ideas?

Talked with my repair guy and he thinks it actually the battery that has the short. He suggested replacing the battery first before having it towed to the shop. I don't quite know what to do. If I replace the battery I'm looking at 100 minimum. If I have the car towed and it turns out to be the battery I'm looking at 75 tow, 75 work (probably) and 100 in battery....But what if it's not the battery. Then it's 100 down the drain, 75 to tow 75 min to work and whatever the repair costs...

If you charged the battery and read 12 volts on it with your gauge....and put jumper cables on it to another running vehicle...

and she still doesn't go click click or turn the motor over....i don't think its the battery.


What year Blazer? Would help narrow it down, plus do you have a handheld multi meter and know how to use it? We can help you test voltage at certain areas to see where your problem is.

If you don't have a multi meter and know how to use it, just have it towed to a garage. You'll save money in the end as you won't be buying parts you don't need.

I'd check the wires at the starter. It sounds like something is shorting out causing it not to turn over & making the rest of the electrical go hay wire. (sorry, no pun intended)
