360 degree on board camera

does anybody have a new vehicle with this technology. i have a few questions please

mdehoogh 06-22-2018 01:51 PM

I have it on my 2018 F150. The BMW/RollsRoyce implementation is far ahead of anyone else, but the Ford offering is still very impressive.

I’ll do my best to answer any questions

thanx, im wanting to add this technology to a project of mine.
first ?, where are the cameras actually located. are they obvious?
2nd?, is yours factory installed?
3rd?, tell me about the screen, part of the stereo/navigation system?

Usually both mirrors, the deck lid and the grille will have cameras. I've worked on quite a few Audis with the system. Audi does a great job hiding the mirror cameras, and their grille and deck lid cameras are pretty well disguised too.

It is built into the into the indash navigation system, shows up as a top view of the car showing the surrounding areas.

Exactly as chevyriders said, 360 cam is comprised of 4 cameras, forward (part of the Ford emblem), reverse (just under the tailgate handle), and on each side mounted in the mirror. It's factory installed and is tied in with the in-dash monitor.

In my case, there's a button above the screen that will enable the camera and allow you to cycle through different views. When shifting into reverse, it will automatically appear on screen in whatever view you had it last. I leave it in a split-view, with reverse trajectory on the left side, and 360 cam on the right side.

I think a homemade system should be possible, if you just ran 4 cameras that all displayed on a monitor. Stitching the images together to give an uninterrupted 360 birds eye view like the factory options would be pretty tough.

Couple photos of the cameras, and a gif of it in operation below
