Hitch. I wouldn't trust the bumper to pull anything but a toboggan

What he said.

It's been a long time since any vehicle was made with a bumper that I would trust to tow anything. Plus, the height adjustability of a receiver hitch is really nice.

3rd for hitch.

There was a ball mounted on the bumper of my 04 when I got it, and one of the first things I did after bringing it home was pulling the ball off and installing a hitch (and sourcing a replacement plastic pad from the junk yard to cover the hole in the bumper...).

I didn't even own a trailer at the time, but knew that I was never even going to ATTEMPT to tow anything with the bumper ball lol.

No hesitations to pull anything now granted with 31's and stock gearing, it doesn't really like to pull anything around lol but it'll do it

I'm not afraid to pull a light trailer with the bumper, say 500 lbs but I 3rd or 4th a hitch for that kind of wt. That might even be too much wt for that vehicle all together. You'll be towing a trailer that weights almost as much as the towing vehicle and that is more than I would pull far.

There's nothing wrong with a trailer weighing as much as, or more than, the tow vehicle. It's actually very common. And 2000lbs. should be well within the rated towing capacity of that vehicle. As long as he uses a proper hitch and avoids using overdrive, there shouldn't be any problems.

Sometimes and under certain conditions. I'd easily gross 20,000 with my #8000 F-250 with a diesel and a trailer with brakes on it but I wouldn't be so inclined to pull an #8000 trailer with no brakes and I doubt that a #2000 trailer has brakes. Once again, it's just my opinion. I'm just an old geezer who's driven a lot and pulled trailers 'within the rated towing capacity' plenty. I also pull my 14' AL boat with a 3 hp engine on it with the hole in the bumper. Can he do it? Sure. How far will he go and how will he like it is what I'd like to hear back on.
