Canada fishing guys...(need some help)
 

...or anyone else who fishes Canada chime in too.

Anyway, my Dad, brother and cousin and I are attempting to plan a fishing trip to Canada in July some time. My Dad knows a guy who goes up there every year and fishes lakes that are pretty remote. This guy has maps of old logging roads to get to these lakes. I guess they take a small boat that can be carried off the trailer and put into the water due to limited access on these particular lakes. My Dad is supposed to talk to this guy more in depth about where they go and to see if he will point us in the direction he goes, and with any luck get an exact route they take as well as the logging road maps. Supposedly they caught over 100 walleyes in a period of 8 days.

So...if we are unable to get any help from this guy (I am guessing we will be able to but...) then I would like to get some possible assistance from you all here. We are coming from Iowa and will be willing to travel 18 hours or so to get to a location. Are any of you guys into fishing and know of any hot spots we can access? Preferablly remote, but semi-close to a town in case we need something. We will be camping out wherever we end up as well. We have looked into the resorts and whatnot but we want to do this as cheaply as possible to make for a more "rugged" experience if you will.

Looking to obviously stay in Ontario or Manitoba provinces somewhat straight North of Minnesota. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thanks guys!

I've been fishing in canada for a week every year for the pretty much my whole life (I'm only 23 so not too long I suppose). I haven't ever been anywhere remote but the fishing is awesome.

A few things I recommend are going to a Canadian Tire or legit tackle shop to get your fishing license, Walmart never seems to have a license. Be prepared to drink your milk from a bag rather than a carton. Be sure to get Canadian money from a bank; most places tourist places accept American $$ but the exchange rate they use is never accurate. Be sure to try an amazing food called Poutine (gravy, cheese and a mountain of fries).

Go fishing around dryden. Lac seul is pretty good. tons of roads around there some you need to carry the boat, river crossings. theres a launch at lac seul (i forget how to get there) but you pretty much need 4x4 to get back up the hill with a boat,there is a campgrond at the launch,,always have had good luck there for walleye..at lac seul always had better luck with live minnows than night crawlers, you can get them and licenses at the petro canada in town.

when i go to my dads, its never a remote place, but its still pretty good, alot of lakes up there......its near nestor falls ontario.........yes exchange rate sucks, most people look at me weird here in the states when i say, vinegar and fries........canadian tire is your friend and food tastes better in canada, atleast i think it is

Thanks for the suggestions all. Streblo, the places you mentioned look to be exactly what we are looking for and not too bad of a drive for us. We have some time to plan it out still but we want to make sure we have something set in stone in the next month or two.

Fishing in Manitoba, lets see... McAuther Falls, Pine Falls, Seven Sisters, Lac Du Bonnet area <--- all easy to get to, paved roads & some off highway but nothing crazy. Boat launches are another question, McAurther, Pine & Seven are risky for a "launch". Toss a boat in for sure.
Lac Du Bonnet has lots of places to launch & you can launch just north of there & get to the S side of Mc Aurther Falls by boat. Fishing is good for walleye, bass, cats, northern pike, sauger in the coves etc.
Camping wise Otter Falls is great, fishing is so so but you have to cruise around & find what works where. Nutamuk (sp) has Yurts a modern day teepee & are awsome for I think $50 a night or something. Google will be your friend when looking these places up. Also try www.manitobaanglers.com
