Just curious how many other people on here have a CDL, what class they have, endorsements, ect... I have a class A with no endorsements currently. I am thinking about getting my Tanker and Doubles/Triples endorsement but haven't done it yet lol, been studying on and off the last several years... I have no interest in getting my HazMat, this job is dangerous enough without worrying about sitting on a stick of dynamite or spontaneous (if I spelled that right lol) combustion LOL.....

 

I have had an unrestricted Class A with doubles/triples and tankers for 35 years. I used to have a HazMat endorsement, but let it lapse years ago.

 

I've had my CDL since I was 20. b class Passenger, School Bus, air brakes. I've been some sort of a bus driver for 20 years. school buses charter buses and handicap vans. in Michigan the tanker and Hazmat are written test only. I've been thinking of studying for my x so that I can drive fuel truck or compressed commercial gases. also if I were to get into tow truck driving if I can drive it I can tow it.

 

I've had mine for a while also. I had a Class A with Tankers, Hazmat and air brakes, the normal stuff. Got mine when I lived out in Colorado. Now that I don't use it anymore and haven't for some time it's been reduced to a K. I won't give it up completely, they're nice insurance if you ever them.

Same here in Kentucky, Doubles/Triples, Tanker and HazMat are just the written test... If you get your HazMat stay safe for sure!

 

You still have 2 keep a current valid Medical Card I believe, weather you are still trucking or not...

 

Nope, intrastate it isn't required, only interstate.

 

You sure? The DMV wouldn't let me renew mine a few months ago until I had a current medical certificate. And I don't even drive trucks any more.

 

I think the confusion comes in the reporting and the documentation. the federal g dot medical card is required in order to maintain the license. but intrastate as in in your own state only does not require you to give your secretary of state a copy of your certificate. interstate commerce requires that the state Licensing Bureau maintain a copy of your medical card. so whether you have a secretary of state or a DMV or whatever fancy name they call it, the state level licensing agency must maintain a copy of your card on file for you to cross state lines with product or equipment. so you are both kind of right. that is why about 5 years ago they forced all of us to self declare which category intra or inter -state. if you declare in-state only and get caught commercially out of state that's it's own fine whether you actually gave your state licensing agency a copy of your card or not. either way you must also always have your card on you and current. and I don't know what a k is unless it's dormancy. so similar to mandating proof of insurance, interstate commerce will mandate a copy of the medical card. states can mandate it otherwise as well.
