Duramax Silverado
 

Folks,

I was thinking about buying an '03 Silverado K3500 Duramax, but it's got 225K miles on it. Seems like a lot of miles to rack up in seven years, but is that low miles for a diesel? And is $13K way too much to ask for it? Just wondering. :icon_shrug:

i would check ebay and compare prices on similar trucks with similar miles. 13k seems like a little much but that depends on what options it has.

The high miles means it was used for what the truck was made for in my opinion, work. In my experience with company vehicles, they get beat to hell. But I've also seen company trucks, Ram 3500, Ford f-350's, go with 350,000 plus miles. All depends who took car of it within those 225k miles if I would buy it. But if I were you, I would just settle for a 2500hd with a 6.0 in it with less that 150k for that much.

I agree. Those duramax's are incredible engines. They will go forever! With that said though, that many miles in 7 years more then likely means it was a work truck, which probably means it had a hard life. I'd just compare prices and if it seems on par then go for it. Then once you buy it, you can ship it up here. I'd LOVE to have a duramax :D

I dont know. From what I've seen it's the short trips that kill the diesels. People that drive them as their 8 miles to and from work vehicle because they think they're cool, then complain about the problems they have. This truck was probably used to haul/tow something on very long trips, which is exactly what it was made for.

Very true. Anything bigger than a 2500, whether it be a Duarmax 3500, a Ram 3500, or an F-350, those are work horses. Designed for that. A 3500 truck is NOT a daily driver in my opinion. I work construction with a variety of different trucks. They all get beat to hell. But the only problem I've seen is my 02 Ram 3500 Turbo Dually 6 speed blowing the clutch once trying to do a brake stand in Texas. And with me beating the living hell out of it up until then and 8 months after. We have a 99 f-350 with 370,000 miles on the original engine and still going strong. It's a 4 door truck for the traveling crew. 2 Transmissions but still original motor.

Thanks for the input, guys. I did suspect those Duramaxes could last forever, but you're right that it doesn't make sense for a daily driver. I will definitely look at some 2500s also, maybe just the gasoline variety instead of diesel.

Well, I'm bumping the thread to let you guys know I just bought an '03 Silverado 2500 HD last Saturday. For the same price as the one I mentioned before, I got a 6.0 V8 (gas, not diesel), a stick shift, four doors, Flowmaster exhaust -- and there were just 85K miles on the odo. Woo hoo!

On the downside, they wouldn't even take my Blazer in trade, even though the previous dealer I visited offered me $1,500 for it. Whatever! So the Blazer's still for sale, guys and gals. I'm pretty flexible on any reasonable offer.
