geo metro

well i think this is the place that i can ask a question a bout nothing. well i have just come to the conclusion that i want to fix up my dads geo metro. it is in good shape but needs an engine rebuild. i have seen that any one who has a geo with the 1.0L(technically it is a .9 L) that they all burn oil if they have any bit of miles on them. is there a reason for them to do that so early in a cars life time? i realy like it it got 44mpg city and 48 hw when it was new and i want it now for a back up. but i might be crazy from going from 190hp 260lb. ft. torque to 55hp and 35lb. ft torque?

but i just wanted to say that. and i think i can get it all back to new working order in under 500 dollars. and with gas at a nice high price(but not now it is $3.15 per gallon) it will pay off in a few months

RE: geo metro

well that is OK . i don't think any one here can get any thing close to 44mpg. and if you can great. but i do know that the Geo metro has got some of the cheapest parts in it . like every engine in the world uses as much oil as it does gas(while not much it still has to be filled) and about every trans. has a broken brass synchronizers or some thing like that. i know they were made to be throw away cars but it is just crazy. but my dad got it brand new with 4 miles and paid $4000 so i think he got moneys worth out of it. but i still think myself and a friend can get the geo back to new with parts that wont ware out until 200000 for under $500.

i guess this will be my restore project. i will keep you all up to date. and thanks for all the great support..... lol

If you want it as a project and knock-around, that's fine. Go for it. When somebody asks me why a particular object costs so much less than its competitors, I remind them that if you want nice, clean fresh oats - you gotta pay a fair price. If you want the oats that have already been through the horse - that comes cheaper.

You what a good project would be, putting a 350 in a geo, man that would be a hell of a sleeper haha.

yeah until the frame snaps in half. lol.

just go find a wrecked street bike and take the trans/shift/engine out of it and mod the geo to fit. you'd havethesickest ride around. it would probaly work in a geo metro considdering they weigh like nothing.
