Great info on myths about brakes
I was looking up why my brakes are suddenly pulsing and found this great pdf on myths for braking systems. One in particular is the first one. Warped rotor myth.
It seems alot of people are thinking there rotors are warped when they feel the "pulse" at slow speed stops. Unless your are feeling it in your steering wheel, I would try to do what this pdf suggests in the "prevention" subsection of section 1. This is also a great guide on properly braking to a stop and not "riding the brakes" as it were. Warped rotors are not always a myth. For example, rotors on Dodge trucks from the 90's. Dodge even admitted it.

Yah there is actually a GM maintance bulletin for blazers and warrped rotors with all the step to help avoid it from happening again.

I didn't know about the GM bulletin. Thanks, I'll look it up. I agree, rotors are not always a myth, I do still think this may be something to look into before going out and buying new rotors. I guess it really just depends on proper diagnosis and what the symptoms are.

Well I don't know how much water this holds but on older vehicles with abs. I have heard that the randomizer for letting off the brakes when the abs activates sometimes doesn't become random any more if you use it alot, and will create small deviations in the rotor surface creating the ever annoying little shakes. Still usually when the shakes occur something else besides the rotor is going out.

That was an intersting article. Even the points after the warped rotor issue were interesting. I always wondered what makes brake fluid go bad, and now I know!

You should always check the run out on both sides of the rotor before saying it is warped. A warped rear rotor will be felt through the seat, not in the steering. I have a warped rotor in the back of my Rainier right now, verified with a dial indicator.

I wonder how it would feel if it were back disk that was warped. I jacked it up tonight and had trouble turning the back passenger wheel freely. Thats gotta be the warped one right? Or at least the suspect wheel with the problem, warped or not.

They should turn relatively free. Having a G80 rear diff (if you do) will complicate things though.

Why would you feel a warped rotor through the seat? I would think you would feel it through the brake pedal during normal braking. Not tryin to be smart-just an honest question.
