Reason 1 not to drive a ford focus wagon in Detroit at night
 

I just got back from hanging out at Wayne State University in Detroit tonight with some buddies. A mutual friend had picked me up and drove down there, on our way back we get cut off while making a left hand turn, hit the curb hard doing 20 and just toast the front end of the focus wagon he was driving... The 3 of us got out of the car, look at it and its just toasted... Thank god i was wearing a seat belt, had i not, i would have been thrown hard into the airbag and probably windshield, i now will never not wear it again.... This accident happened 2 hours ago and i'm still shaking...

I used to manage an impound yard, and was a tow recovery specialist. I saw first hand what happens to people who can't be bothered with a seat belt. I never go anywhere without one on, I always wear a helmet when on my bike out out playing with the Odyssey. x2 on seeing the injuries from not wearing seatbelts. being a firefighter i have ridden up on some pretty nasty wrecks and seen some very nasty stuff.

But the one thing about the whole accident that surprised the heck out of me was that only the driver side curtain airbag went off.

I "am"(now won't be) the person who drives 2 blocks to family member's house, friends house, the corner store without my belt because "its only 2 blocks".. Now, i will always wear my seat belt and be anal about everyone else in my car.

that is weird that the front bags never deployed but it hit with enough force to open a side curtain. the front drivers and passengers are usually the most sensitive.

i have been to wrecks were the drivers bag went off from something only a little more than a bad fender bender and it actually hurt the driver worse than the actual impact would have.

it's good that this little accident happened then.

while i feel bad for our friend (for driving a Ford and getting his ride wrecked), @ least you'll be safer from now on.

i've always been anal about safety belts-won't even drive across a parking lot without putting mine on. and if you've seen any of the parking lots around the GTA, you'd know why!

Well, this is one more thing thats going to save my life. I quit smoking about a month ago and haven't looked back, i don't drink, i don't touch drugs, and i personally don't race. So, i guess the little strip of material called a safety belt was the logical next step.

yup.

besides that, you'll save cash for avoiding a ticket too.

And quite possibly medical bills as well, be it from a crash or the smoking.
