Spark plug gap& type.
Anybody had any dealings with putting spark plug gaps at 40 instead of 60 thousands? Regular plugs, double platinum, iridium, E3's, spiltfires ??????

The only reason ive heard of people closing their gaps is if they're running nitrous... Other than that, or possibly if you're running super high compression- I don't think there is any legitimate reason to do that.

If you have a bad wire and the spark is taking a differen't path........ couldn't you temporarily shorten that plugs gap to get spark(until you get new wires)?

If the spark jumps from the wire shorting the gap would IMHO not be a remedy.
Insulation tape would do the job on a cable, even a piece of rubber hose that you slide over the damaged part. A piece of a paper clip and a yard of electrical tape did the job once a rodent ate one of my ignition cables. I've used both for emergency repairs which stayed on the truck for several weeks before changing cables. Most important: use the correct type of cable. Resistor or none and correct plugs. I've found that spark gaps in production cars can be way out of specs and still work flawless. Good measure to set them at the manufacturers spec. They have been testing that for a long time to figure the best in safe operations and economy. |
