Your First Car

I was in high school {early 70s} bought the GTO for $50.00 no motor or trans but cherry body - picked up a rolled Lamans for i think $200.00 that was around the same year and did a transplant so she had a 2bbl and later did a 4bbl swap - the tri power manifold was in the trunk when i bought the car minus carbs and linkage and being a poor high scool kid working at a gas station i sold it to a kid that had a GTO Judge - prob bought beer and gas I don't remember - but hey gas was under 50 cents a gal and a six pack was a buck or so - lol

This makes me feel old. My first car when I was in highschool 10 years ago (DAMN! that's the part making me feel old) was a 94 Chevy S-10.
I had a lot of blood, sweat, tears, stories, and attachment to this truck. I wish I had never gotten rid of it.
My dad and I did every bit of work to the truck ourselves in his garage with a borrowed MIG welder.
We shaved everything: door handles, antenna, 3rd brake light, tailgate handle. I frenched in a license plate box crooked in the tailgate and welded in a smooth roll pan.
The suspension was dropped 4 inches with new leafs, blocks, spindles, and coils. It was a 4 banger 5 speed with a ram air intake and one loud *** cherry bomb that dumped right under my cab...you could hear me coming lol. I worked through a bitter cold winter at the local carwash to buy the wheels and tires. I can't remember what they were but they were 18 in the rear and 17 in the front with some super nice Michellin Pilot Sports.
Girls used to love this truck. My ZR2 hasn't gotten any compliments from the ladies yet...maybe because it's always covered in mud

I'm building a NA 2.3 '88 Mustang motor at 10:1 compression, 200hp, to drop into a 1997 Ranger! She should be a TON of fun....
With just the "stock" 2.3L (Dual Plug), the truck is ALL OVER THE road! And that's with front and rear swaybars, plus a 6-5 drop. I'm going to have to figure out the handling situation. ..
The 15x7/8" Diamond Racing Steelies with some good tyres should take care of it! Because with the stock 13's, I bark 3rd on dry pavement - wet, I'm SIDEWAYS at 60!!!

This is what I'm building RIGHT now! Those 2.3L are BEAST, especially the Tubroed Coupe motors out of the Thunderbirds and such!

I wish i kept it, If i had the no-how back then i would have just SAS'd it and converted it to 4wd lol.
Was definitely a cool truck, I beat the hell out of it and it kept coming back for more. They have a wicked turning radius, i used to have a lot of fun in the rain/snow drifting around. Ive contemplated buying another to DD but they're tough to find in good shape now.

Old thread, hope it is okay to post. Just came across some really old photos on a hard drive.
First car I owned, 1989 Ford Ranger Reg Cab with a cap, 2.9l 5speed and 218,000 miles when I bought it. Original owner made some special glass that he drove between MI and TX quite often, so highway miles. $1300 when I bought it in high school.
First car I drove was a 1996 Chevy Astro mom-van on some country roads when I was 14, with my dad (mom didn't know).
