99 2 door blazer 5/6 drop
I am thinking of lowering my blazer with the 5/6 drop. Now i have heard some mixed reviews on this. Do I, or do I not have to shorten my drive shaft/notch my frame. Just checking before i dig into this project. I basically want the shortest ride height with miner modifications. Thanks for your help.

I'm about 95% positive that you will have to notch your frame, remove your rear bumpstops and possibly flip your rear brake lines.
You may or may not need to shorten your driveshaft. I tried lowering my '02 2Dr using 3" blocks and the locating pins wouldn't line up between the axle and the blocks. I exchanged the 3" blocks for 2" blocks and didn't have a problem. You might also think about getting a set of set-back plates from JTR. The add an extra 3/8" of drop but move your axle back 1/2" so you don't have to shorten your driveshaft. so, are you thinking a 4/5 drop would be more of a better choice for me then? I want to go as low as i can without having a lot of fab work. but it depends on how much of a notch i would have to do. I am new to frame work, so if i don't have to or if it is easy, then that would be cool.

ive never used the set back plates, i had an older 4 door that was dropped 6 inches, it definitly hit the frame alot. suicidedoors.com may have a bolt in notch for the 2 door. i know they do for a 4 door just not sure on the 2 door the frames are different a 2 door has a slight curve to it where the 4 doors like mine are straight, the older 4 doors had the curve also

4/5 or 5/6 is still going to mean you have to notch the frame. Suicidedoors does offer the bolt in notch here.
If you want just a bolt on kit with no fabricating then 4" in the rear may be your limit. Later, Doug |
i was reading on some other stuff and they had guys running the 5/6 without a notch. tho they did say it hit frame when they hit bumps, just not all the time. so i am not to sure what i am going to do. but for a hundred bucks, the bolt in notch is the way to go. and it is cheap so i might as well do it. thanks again for the info on this, i do appreciate it.

i was also thinking of doing the 5/6 drop on my 2 door. this provided lots of info for me so thanks for this thread. bolt on cnotchs are a must for a drastic drop. just 1 question though, how bad will the camber angle be off on the front with a 5" drop? anyway to avoid some of it without going out n getting new control arms?

my ole 96 4dr had 3in blocks and i removed a leaf too...low pro tires of 17s...it sat on the bumpstops so i revomved them. the axle hit the frame at every bump very uncomfortable ride. never'll do that again...

when i had my 98 4door blazer it was droped 5/7 on 20s wit 255 35 tire my frame was not notched i had a 4 inch block and pulled two leaf springs in back i made some homemade bumpstops so my frame didn bottom out on my axle looked good tucked alil tire in front and back i dont think i could have went any lower i drug my frame in a lot of places

Good to know stuff here. I've been think of dropping my '99 2dr/2wd a couple of inches. Sits too high for me.
