Have no clue what to do to lower...
 
I would like my 2001 to be a bit lower than it is. It currently sits lower in the front than in the back. Because I do live in New Hampshire I do not want it so low I plow snow with the front bumper; especially when I put on my aftermarket bumper. I could use some ideas on how low to go and what I need to get to make it happen.

Level it out and lower it by maybe an inch or so. It depends on how it looks after leveling it out

you can always crank the tbars to level it out or uncrank them and put lowering shackles

I think for the rear, you'd end up using lowering blocks. Since Blazers have a spring under axle in the rear, you add a block that spaces the axle and spring out, effectively lowering the rear end. Combined with a t-bar unload, voila, cheap lowering.


You can go with a 1 or 2" lowering block in the rear and unload the front t-bars to match it and it shouldn't cost you more than $100, max.

ohh i thought they had lowering shackles I didnt know you can add blocks to the rear ends blazers have

yea u can block em. the u bolts strap them down,i think the middle bolt thing holds em in place.

We keep talking about torsions,how do we know he has 4x4? or did i miss something?


On my 91 4x4 i backed the torsion bolts out all the way,and it only dropped maybe 2 inches,and now i have torsion lean,passenger side is a inch higher. so i had to redo it until they were even. If you have 4x4 you need to get lowering keys.

In another thread it was mentioned he has 4x4, I believe. And since he only wants a mild drop, less than 2 inches from a torsion bar unload should be fine.

It is a 4x4. And 1-2 inches should work fine. I would think that would be enough to handle curves and corners better (even though it does an amazing job now) and not plow snow with my front bumper. It is a hope that I can add the 16" Extreme rims to this without running into height issues. Hence why I want to level it out first, and see how much I can lower it after.

The problem with levelling it out is that you don't have rear suspension adjustabillity, only front. So in order to level it, you'd have to raise the front up to match the rear... kind of the opposite of what you're trying to achieve.

Also, remember that either route you take, adjusting the front suspension up or down more than about 1/2" will require a new alignment. I'd suggest making the changes, driving for a day at most (unless you have crappy tires and are getting them replaced) to let the suspension settle a little, then get the car aligned. Unless you're replacing the tires anyways, don't drive more than a day or two if you don't absolutely have to.

sounds like a project for spring then, since I will be getting an alignment and new tires then. But I heard the issue with cranking the torsion bar up is everything wears out faster in the front. Hence why I want to try and lower the rear end.

It'll wear faster if you crank it for a lift, sure. If you do it just to level everything out you'll be fine.

If u have plans of driving on the 16" Xtreme wheel, keep in mind that the front wheels will stick out pass the fenders. I have those wheels on my 00 Blazer LS, 4x4. So I would assume that by lowering your truck and having these wheels, if u hit bumps, u may have some finder rubs.

Im still driving on stock ride height, and i have not encountered any problems while driving. they actually made the truck handle a little better. But i cant tell you for sure if u will encounter rubbing problems with the drop and wheels

I have been doing some reading in the suspension part of the forum and I guess it is normal for the rear end to be a little higher than the front and the ride is still level. I am going to have the suspension looked over by my new mechanic and make sure everything is good; if it is, then I think I might leave the ride height alone...not sure yet. I also am looking at other possible rims. The xtreme rims are nice, but I want to keep my options open right now.

Look at my pictures in my album I lowered mine 4 and 1/2 rear and 3 in the front and on 18's and it sat level keep in mind though mine is 2wd. On any vehicle when you lower a vehicle you drop the rear more then the front always hence drop kits like 1-2, 3-4, 5-6 and so on so that the rear sits level with the front on yours just put a 2 inch drop block in the rear with near u-bolts and call it a day. That will give you a level situation and give it the appearance of being lowered when all you did was level out the rear with the front that way nothing gets wore out fast in the front and rear.
