thanks for letting me join your forum.i am from s.e north carolina and thinking about buy 1987 or 88 s-10 blazer 4x4 body is in good shape and 4x4 works i haven't seen the truck up close and was wondering about what to look for as far a mechanical.someone said the 2.8 weren't good engines[feedback welcome] and what would be a good ballpark price?any pro or con about this truck would be helpful since i know nothing 200000+miles i won't be doing any 4-wheeling[for family use only with maybe small trailer my p/u has gottin'to small reg cab] thank you and hope to make so new friends Bill

Engines are generally as good as the maintainer. If the truck doesn't show any signs of abuse you will be fine.

If anything breaks, fix it. As well as sounds. I picked up my 99 Blazer 4.3 4x4 and it has only minor issues and have been all clarified mostly in one day.

Parts are abundant as well. So if something does go wrong it's generally cheap to fix

you really should be posting this kind of question in the 1st gen S-series section.

they're not a great engine, but still pretty decent, if (like Topsecret said) properly maintained.
