Hello from NW PA
Hi. I'm brsims, and I am the proud owner of a 1997 GMC Jimmy SLT 4x4. I bought my Jimmy a year and half ago, paid about 3 grand for it, and put approximately another grand into it to get it running right. So far, I've put new tires all around, plugs, wires, cap and rotor, water pump, and balancer on it. Oh, and today I had to replace the bushings on the driver's side of the stabilizer bar.
I love my Jimmy, and haven't had to shovel my driveway for two winters now. Okay, this winter maybe doesn't count, since we didn't get that much snow around here, but still.
The only difficulty I'm having is, of course, the gas mileage. I'm going to put a fresh tune up on the engine, since I used Bosch plugs last time, and now I have a knock in number one cylinder that I believe is the piston hitting the plug. This time, I'm going with the AC Delco plugs. And I'm considering a cold air intake system. Should I also expand the exhaust system? If so, how big should I go? The current exhaust is factory standard.
By the way, my Jimmy is on it's original motor and transmission, and currently has well over 230,000 miles clocked. Great vehicle, starts every day without fail. Just want to get the mileage up a bit if possible.
Thank you in advance.
