Your fastest and by far the most cost effective solution is to get a rear housing with everything, of correct ratio out of a pick n pull junk yard. Do it it yourself or have them pull it if it's too cold or inconvenient. No ZR2 rears as they are too wide and almost always 8.625 ring gear (unless this is what you have). No 2WD rears as they are too narrow. Any 7.625" out of very common 4x4 2000-2004 Blazer or S10 or Jimmy is probably what you need. You can look at RPO code in glove box for same gear ratio. They should all have disk brakes.

The 8.625 housing axle tubes get smaller as they come out each side of the center section. 7.625 tubes stay the same. I think this is the best way to tell which size rear you have - 7.625 or 8.625 ring gear.

To review, there are three widths of housings, two ring gear sizes, and the ring and pinion ratio you need to confirm. Probably you have one of the very easiest ones to find. But need to know exactly what you have now before you start searching.

As far as rebuilding what you have. Rears are not easy for a novice to set up first time and pretty expensive for ring, pinion, carrier bearings, pinion bearing, seal, shims, etc. There is a steep learning curve that will cause a lot of wasted time, not to mention a need for a real shop-quality press and some misc tools. If you really want to do it, I can help - but it will never be a rush or cheap job to do.

If you take a photo of your RPO tag and your axle tubes where they come out from the rear and tell us if ZR2 or 2 door or 4 door, then we can help you identify the rear end completely.
