Midlife crisis ZR2

I'm new to the forum, but I've owned my Zr2 Blazer for about 10 years now. It's my second Zr2, but the ones that's stuck around the longest. I used to fear the idea of making a stupid idea when the midlife crisis hits... like, buying an expensive Corvette, or a Harley... but I've decided that lifting my Zr2 and shoving 33s under it would be a great option... I'll be lurking for info and lend a word or two when I see projects I've done before. Hello all.

I cant find a Zr2 specific 6in lift anymore... everyone stopped production...

A lot of people do the SAS swap. About the same costs I believe...

Oh. Never looked for ZR2 lifts. Mine is a regular old boring 4 door

My biggest apprehension with the SAS, is getting the parts welded to the chassis... I cant trust anyone to do it right.

There is a bolt on kit available, not sure if it fits the ZR2, though. Still gotta weld on the shock hoops, though

So happy there's still a forum and following for the s10... I've had 6 s10 Blazers since I was 16.. I'll be updating the forum with any upgrades on my ZR2.

Nice rubbers! Are they the stock size?

OlympicWhiteZr2 03-11-2019 05:15 PM

Yeah. Went with 31s to keep it conservative.. there's no way to lift the zr2 anymore so 33s are out of the question

No way to lift a ZR2? Rough country still sells a 2.5" lift that fits the ZR2(it only gives a 2" lift to ZR2's). I put one on almost 8months ago.
(Did not see your thread about already doing shackles, t-bar, and UCA's. you've pretty much done the RC 2.5 minus the shocks)

That sucks, man. I know the ZR2s start a little higher up than regular Blazers, and even with the couple extra inches you've gotten it lifted probably wouldn't be enough for 33s. I lifted mine 6", and still had to do some fairly heavy trimming to get them to not rub offroad

Wheela... DM me some info on installing the RC lift. I have the control arms installed, and cranked the t-bars... the camber is still way off.

Sorry if I misled you with what I said, I put one on by having my local Jeep Shop install it lol. Little stuff I love doing but I'm not that mechanically inclined to do a whole lot, glad I had them do it too because I had a bunch of little things broke or completely worn that needed replacing that we only discovered while doing the lift.

Working on these trucks is addicting but I'd much rather have one of these MY WAY than spend 50K on a new truck.

OlympicWhiteZr2 03-12-2019 10:31 AM

Rented the tool, Installed in about 2 hours... it was way easier than I thought... now I gotta dial it in and get an alignment

OlympicWhiteZr2 03-13-2019 08:39 PM

At 1 point o had my zr2 and an 88 GMC Jimmy 2dr. The Jimmy turned out to be Swiss Cheesed but I sold it to a good friend who's gonna drop a racing drive train for drags.

Pretty exciting idea, putting 33s on. Too bad they don't make the lift for it anymore. Good luck, excited to hear what you end up doing to the zr2

I've already posted this pic in other threads, but here's the current look... tires and RC lift all installed.

I think plenty of fun can be had with the stock 31's especially by going with the M/T style tire. I may change my mind after going to Moab this year but my 2001 ZR2 did just find going from the Oregon Coast to Elko NV. without using the interstate. We went on fire roads, BLM trails and some 4X4 trails including crossing at Cutcher Crossing in Idaho on Owyhee River.

Your Rig is looking sharp.

That is looking good. I didn't think the RC lift worked with the zr2. Also are those the stock rims? Do they rub at all? That's a thing of beauty!

Yes, stock rims... there was a bit of rubbing at full lock, but all I had to do was push back the rear of the inner fender with a hammer. Just enough to bend the metal back and get it out of the way. Thanks for the compliment.

Dang nice advantage of those zr2’s is the fender flairs. One thing I would need before any attempt to go up and out. PIcky as -hit around here locally about protruding rubber past the body. Looking good

With a little modification, or buying prefaced ones from jungle flare, you can have them on your 4 door too.
