Hi there everyone :) Just bought a 2004 4x4 4 door. Pleasantly stock at the moment, but after I fix a few little things, that won't stay the same for long :D It's in pretty good shape as-is. 160k on the odometer and she fires right up, runs smooth, locks into 4wd, will break all 4 loose in low range :icon_wink:

So far I've just put a battery in it and replace the driver's door latch (wouldn't lock, looked in and found that the door pin bushings got so bad in the past that the door sagged and the owner must have just been slamming the door to close it, and it busted the latch all up...)

To do:

* AC system; compressor is locked up solid, so I'm replacing EVERYTHING but the evaporator (already have all the parts brand new)
* ABS light is on; going to pop the top module off of it and check the solder joints; got a spare to work with too ;)
* Tune up; runs good, but going to give everything a once over
* Fuel gauge; it doesn't work... or rather, it's intermittent... so looks like a got a fuel tank drop in my future
* Seats swap; driver's is worn out, and couldn't find a matching driver's in the junk yard, but I found a complete set of different material that I'm going to put in it
* Door panel swap to match the seats (and YES I actually found a good driver's door panel :D)
* Exhaust gasket; simple fix... one of the bolts are gone from the flange that holds the pipes together under the passenger side
* Front door hinge pins; going to replace them because it looks like the bushings are starting to wear, and I need to put the springs back in, and the driver's side upper on the body actually looks tweaked so I gotta bend it back...
* Stereo; although I could fit a double din in it, I just don't need it... had a nice Pioneer double din in my last vehicle and never made full use of it... so I'm sticking a single din in it that still does everything I need it to do. Got a set of components for the front and rear doors, and have a ported box with 2 Kicker 12's that's going in the rear :icon_wink: I'm an audiophile, so it's going to sound good lol


I work at a salvage yard so parts to easy to come by for me, and I have plenty of time to work on it. I'm going to park and it and get everything done before I start driving it, got another vehicle to scoot around in for the time being, and old GMC Sonoma :)


Later on, I plan on putting some aftermarket wheels and some all terrains on it, probably a light bar up front, maybe a rack/basket on the roof. Probably won't go all out with a lift, want to keep it pretty reasonable and realiable for a daily driver, but still capable when needed to be.

Went shopping today, picked up more stuff to knock out before I get it on the road

*New water pump
*New belt (which I needed regardless because the AC compressor on it now is locked up and the previous owner put a smaller belt on it to bypass it)
*Cooling system flush (and some fresh Dexcool)
*All 4 new shocks (the rear floats something fierce... but if I'm going to do the rears, I'm going to do the fronts too)
*Intake manifold gasket kit (I hear they're an issue. I don't THINK there's a problem with mine right now, but while I'm tearing into it I might as well get the peace of mind and knock it out)


Also picked up a Chiton's manual. Might come in handy :)

welcome from Wyoming - the chiltons might if your lucky show you how to change oil or a tire - good luck if you need any actuall info on anything - also double and triple check things like torque settings - usually wrong in the books :eek:

My friend just bought a Hayne's Manual for his ZR2 Blazer and it doesn't seem to be any better. It is made to cover too many vehicles in one book.
