Hello, to introduce myself I am the owner of a 2003 GMC Jimmy, I do like the truck a lot and I am going to apologize in advance because I am not very mechanically inclined. Currently the truck will intermittently start and we took it to a mechanic yesterday and they told us that the body control module is shot and they can't replace it. We bought the truck three months ago and it has had its issues so I'm currently trying to figure out if the truck is worth saving or is it just going to become a very expensive paperweight. The truck has very low miles and it was religiously maintained by its previous owner so rust is pretty minimal.

Welcome to the forum!
Very rare on these trucks for the BCM to "fail". I would get a second opinion without mentioning the previous shop's diagnosis and if it comes back with the same diagnosis, I would ask if they have the capability of reflashing a donor BCM (junkyard or eBay sourced). Beyond that, if you want to discuss the issue further, please create a new post in one of the maintenance forums (2nd Gen Tech for example) and we can try to help in more detail. |
Welcome to the forum! Swartlkk's advice is good as always. Definitely get a 2nd opinion on that one.

Then check out the thread with the common issues with these Blazers and perhaps have a mechanic go over it to get a list of things that need to be addressed and the priority level for each. However, if the truck is low miles and was well-maintained, you easily could get several years out of it. I'm planning and expect to keep my 170k mile 99 for at least several more years. |
