Forced Induction?
so I got two cute little turbos layin around and i got to thinking that i should totally put them on the Jimmy. So how many of you guys on here are running forced induction? How much psi can i run without doing internals? should I put head spacers on to lower the compression? How much boost can the valve springs handle before floating? Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Rottidog is s/cing his blazer. I think runnin around 7 lbs is okay on stock internals. I'm not entirely sure though. And I know there is someone on here running a rear mount turbo.

s/cing = super charging

ok cool, and any advice on the head spacer? a buddy of mine told me today that is a way you can lower the compression to be able to run boost without swapping out the stock pistons for lower compression pistons. it seem kinda scetchy, any ideas?

Word is the 2nd gen 4.3's can handle 350hp, crank, rods, pistons etc should be good up to 350hp. As for boost, going more than 7-8psi gets risky... gaskets etc get fubar in a hurry, not to mention the added internal heat - pressure = heat
Also you should get larger injectors & on a stock intake manifold thats tough if not impossible. Then theres the transmission having a bunch more ponies going through it so that should get a shift kit. Getting the PCM reprogrammed is a must & dyno-tuned is always better for any specific vehicle, but not necessary. You could very well be strapped to filling with only premium fuel in order for it to run properly & no pre-detonation. (can you guess what I'm going through right now? lol) just my thoughts, what I've heard & read good luck |
wow, thanks! that helps alot. what do you think about the head spacers to reduce the compression? and ya the reason im doing this is cuz it NEEDs to be tuned already and i found the dyno but its $300 and i dont wana waste that much just to tune it to the headers and intake, so i figured id slap these turbos on and get my moneys worth

You'll have to read my thread over at FullthrottleV6.com under 4.3L stickies.
Link: http://www.fullthrottlev6.com/forums...Helpfull-Hints Hope that answers some questions... I've sold the truck now but it's still local and it's got over 180,000mi on stock engine running 10psi daily. ~Scott |
