2door vs 4door off road.

i know the four door is only about a foot or two longer but is there any disadvantage to using a four door off road as compared to a two door 1995-2000?

More doors you have a chance of messing up

deegan26 12-02-2009 10:18 AM

how so though?

Personally I like the 4 door better for the wheelbase it prvides. But I had IFS so , I dont think any stock S series is very good for wheelin. But thats my opinion

The 4 door has a longer wheelbase (ie. more chance of getting stuck/damaging the truck when going up and down inclines.)

IMO I'd want a 2door if I was going to get serious about wheelin'.

As far as being good for wheelin'...that's what the ZR2 was designed for (also notice that it was not made with a 4door option)

The reason I say longer wheelbase is because more times than none more distance between your tires will not stick you so bad in rough terrain. I wouldnt look at it from a 'look what the factory builds' standpoint because as a tech I see alot of stuff that could be made better or easier to work on from the factory. The ZR2 wasnt really made for any serious wheeling. Its a 4x4 sport package similar to Z71 . A Z71 package is shocks and skidplates. Thats it. The factory built IFS and its junk off road , also another reason not to look at it that way. Like I said though thats my 2 pennys

Personally I would take the 2dr over the 4dr when it comes to offroading. The shorter wheel base makes it easier to maneuver on the trails IMO. It will also made it through ditches or up steep inclines easier since it has a shorter wheel base. The only negative to having the shorter wheel base is they become more top heavy.

to answer your first question: not really.
to answer the second, abig84 was saying 4 doors = 4 doors you can potentially dent scratch, tear, etc...

I would say that 4 doors would be much better... the longer wheel base gives you an extension so that you can reach more contact area... and further... which could be beneficial imo

I've gotten into situations where the shorter wheel base was good for maneuverability. There's a guy at school with a 4 dr 4x4, and in the space that I turned around in, he came up short and had to 3 point it...

It's all preference though.
