Battery question
I have a 2002 blazer ls stock battery
can that handle a 10k winch and 4 kc daylighters or will i need to upgrade the battery and or alt. |
yea it should be fine I run a 2000 watt stereo system on top of 7 KC's 100 watts each. I have an optima red top and stock alternator... that just crapped out so I have a 250 amp alternator on the way.
|
i have a yellow top optima. i'm running 1k watt amp and no lights yet but am gonna run 6 of them some time this summer. my battery would die on me overnight and they said it was good the whole time. thats why i upgraded.
|
optimas are good because they can die and be recharged and still hold a charge like nothing happened
|
^ but they can-and do-fail like a regular battery.
if your battery is the original one, i'd play it safe & upgrade before loading it down with more electrical drain. |

Get a ad244 alternator from a 2000-2004 gm fullsize truck. It is a plug and play application and is waaayyy more powerfull than the stock alt.
How To: High Output AD244 Alternator for ~$80 - S-10 Forum |

How To: High Output AD244 Alternator for ~$80 - S-10 Forum ^ that's a great read. came across it last Winter. definately doing this swap when my OE alt craps out. or i finally get around to upgrading my stereo! :icon_couchhide: |
i wouldnt reccomend optimas. i had a red top in my truck. within the first week it started overheating and leaking acid. one time i was driving for like a half hour. after i stopped i saw what looked like steam coming out from under my hood and thought something was wrong with my radiator, long behold the battery was shooting steam out of its filler caps. scary. i threw my old everstart back in the truck after sitting in the garage for a couple months and started right up like nothing ever happened. that optima just didnt have what it takes to handle my truck i guess.
i am also running a 600W amp but i never have it turned up to its full potential. |
these amps we speak of are all small and barely do much. Look at the RMS level and see what your working with. All these little 600 watt amps and such dont do dinky **** to a descent battery and alternator

optima's have a 7 year warrenty.... I would have taken it back and got a new one
36 month is all I see on Optima Webpage. |
it wouldnt hurt to upgrade anything. but my 93 has the stock little 650 cca battery and running a 9000lb winch it works fine. sometimes if i run it for a long stretch like pulling myself up a hill it takes a while for the volts to come back up but years later no problems
