Last time I'm EVER doing this alone.
So last Sunday, I was kinda bored and decided to go for a little ride in my 94 Jimmy. I stumbled across an empty construction site (no gates, no signs forbidding entry... nothing) and I went for it. I was having a great time, had fun going through the big puddles blah blah blah. The dirt was packed pretty well so I wasn't worried about getting stuck until SPLAT. Naturally I found the soft spot the hard way.:icon_slap:
http://i751.photobucket.com/albums/x...1101091625.jpg And I also found out that my truck didn't come with the optional locking diff. :icon_doh: After some panicking and calling up a few local wreckers (cheap bastard wouldn't help me because I was 10 bucks short). I managed to get a hold of my dad and he easily pulled me out with his 2000 tundra... for free too. http://i751.photobucket.com/albums/x...1101091647.jpg Moral of the story? Never go offroading alone and get a locking diff. Anybody know where I can get a locking diff? Or posi (i'd prefer a locker that i can control though)? I tried internet searches with no luck.:icon_no: |
Definitely never go off road alone. I haven't been stuck yet (haven't really gotten too crazy though) but I always bring someone with me. If that option is not available I make sure I have the numbers of my buddies with trucks handy so I can give em a call to come pull me out lol. Nice pics though :)

that same thing happened to me once when i went out alone.. i hit a soft spot and sunk in the slimiest primordial mud... no one would come close to pull me out so after hours of digging, scrounging up a few pieces of wood, and using my stock jack, i got it out. Luckily i had two friends in the blazer with me to help dig and stuff.

try this: Lock Right Locker. at $365, it's on my wish list :( (BEFORE install even)
As for the trouble with self recovery, dude you had that section of 2x6 right there.... you could have pulled it off solo :p |

As for the trouble with self recovery, dude you had that section of 2x6 right there.... you could have pulled it off solo :p http://www.powertrax.com/powertrax/noslip.html I use these in my Jeep. The best locker you can get without dropping the big bucks on a ARB selectable locker. It looks similar, but they have different road mannerisms. I see the price has gone up since I bought mine. If your gonna cheap out, take a look at http://www.aussielocker.com/. Their offices are actually local to me. Also, installing one of them takes me about 20-30 minutes start to finish. Pretty easy. |
:p click the link. that is powertrax yo!
*edit* :icon_slap: got me.... there IS a differenct. Richmond makes both and both carry the Powertrax name.... You are suggesting this style... as for the aussie locker.... is there one that fits anything other than the DANA 44? Says they go up to 1980 for Chevy... |
my buddy had this happen almost 2 months ago. Only he had some water added with it. I got a call at 4am and he was an hour drive north. long story short we are still in the process of putting a new motor in it.

As for the trouble with self recovery, dude you had that section of 2x6 right there.... you could have pulled it off solo :p So from my understanding, my best bet would be to go with the Powertrax No-slip Locker that ABN31B suggested: http://www.stylintrucks.com/part.aspx?category|category_root|-28=Performance&category|cat_-28|338=Differentials+&+Components&partfamilyid=506 9&partid=474340&x=468333&scid=FROOGLE&zmam=7377159 7&zmas=10&zmac=110&zmap=9207853005-468333. And it says that it "Fits GM Open Differential With 8.5" Ring Gear, 30 Spline Count & 10 Bolt Cover." I'm assuming that's what my stock 94 Jimmy has? The entire drive train is completely factory and untouched. And after reading the PDF file with the instructions, I'm guessing that I should keep the front diff either open or just put in a normal limited slip? |
I found this
http://www.stylintrucks.com/parts.as...tfamilyid=5069 Whats the difference between the last two other than the price? |
I figured that was how that board ended up there :icon_razz:
The one I posted (the no slip) will not fir your vehicle. going off the LAST 5 numbers of each item number the difference as as follows: (first numbers are 92077) 52605 : fits 7.5" ring, 28 spline (4 banger engine only) 62805 : fits 7.625" ring, 28 spline (2wd OR 4wd) 62885 : fits 7.625" ring, 28 spline 4wd ONLY $23 more <-- would be my suggestion to you so long as it meets your ring/spline size/count since it is the rougher duty no-slip locker of that batch. :icon_teeth: All of that assumes S15 Jimmy, not full sized, since you are a 94 :icon_shrug: |
