Light bar/switches

Hey guys. Just wanted to get some help on getting a off road light bar (that will go on top of my truck like at the front of a roof basket) bcuz im going to be buying 4 off roading spotlights. I cant seem to find a bar anywhere, so should I just make one myself? and also i was wondering where you guys put all your switches at?? I didnt know if i should get a switch for each light or tie them all into one? thanks any info will be appreciated!

Look into kiwiblazer's custom light bar. mounts FORWARD of the stock bars so you can still use them for your basket (instead of just mounting to the bars).

You could also get an extendable roof rack system (for the cars with no OEM rack) and mount that over your roof forward of your roof rack and mount to that.

ok im getting a roof rack too so maybe i should just go that route. the roof rack i was gonna buy didnt have light tabs so that was my problem.

If your doing four lights you should wire it so one switch goes to the outer two lights and the other goes to the inner two lights.

I put my switches in my center console.

Also I noticed your from Muncie, do they still have their drag strip? I went there a few years ago and it was pretty cool

You can mount them right on the roof rack. That is probably the most popular option (and what I hope to do eventually). You could pick up an extra cross bar for your roof rack if you don't want to drill one of yours (it will render it useless if you use your roof rack a lot). Look at this thread for info.
As for the switches if you odn't have fogs put a cutout in your dimmer switch panel. It looks really good there. If you have fogs, there will be no room. You could mount them in your centre console like mentioned above. I'm assuming his switches are right above the shifter. Another good place would be the dash by the park brake release. There is a lot of spare room on that side of the steering column. Just cut a hole and slip your switch in. Personally I'd wire them all together, but it's not a bad idea to wire the outside ones and the inside ones separately. That way you can control the amount of light you want. It just means you'd have 2 switches. It's really up to how many holes you want in your dash though, and how many switches you want to have.

I got a carr roto bar and it mounts over the top of the door in some brackets. Far enough back that its not blinding you but doesn't look like they are in the middle of the roof.

This is the rack i think im going to buy. although it doesnt have light tabs :(

And yes i want to wire my lights to somewhere on my center console. im still working on that. brainstorming. i want to put one master switch then have a switch for each individual light. i think it will work i just have to work the details out.

Here is where my switches are, they are the two red lights by the console.

I just used a small "project box", some convoluted tubing, and 3M double stick tape, seems to work well without having to drill the knee bolster. I've had it installed for at least a few month of daily abuse, mine houses my quad beam switch and an aux 12v bank. You can get all the parts at Radio Shack or an equivelent shop.

uglymonkey, i like that 3 guage pod with red lights to match the dash lights.

im reconsidering the roof rack in gonna buy now. i want one with light tabs but theyre all like $300 :(

then add your own. anything from a 2 piece bar clamp, to a bolted on plate will do the job. :icon_twocents:
