Default Thinking about a rear locker and 3.73s

After have a good day in a spot I run in nashville , I really wonder how much different my blazer would perform with a rear locker and 3.73s gears. What are yall opinions on the combo

What are you currently running?

If you replaced the rear axle, you'd also have to do the front. Then your speedometer would be off too. With my 3.73 and G80, I get at best 19 mpg on the freeway. I can just get it above 20 if I'm on a highway with a 60 mph speed limit.

If you are going off-road or at least off-pavement, the locker could be nice.

I really preferred how my Blazer drove after I swapped from 3.42 gears to the 3.73. I just found a complete rear axle and matching front and swapped them in directly. The 3.73 gears are especially better if you have equipped larger tires as well.

Interesting to hear of a direct comparison. I knew I was glad to have found a Blazer with the 3.73 gears.

Yes, a lower gearing helps with acceleration and towing in that greater torque (rotational force) can be transmitted to the wheels. The price you pay is reduced fuel economy. I use my truck for towing and going to the woods, not for commuting so I'm happy with the compromise.

Would it be cheaper for me to find a zr2 rear end?

It would be best to find a zr2 rear end, brings the wheels out flush with the front, as well as the gears and g80. I've been on the hunt, but never seem to find them when I have cash for them.

I would also have to get the zr2 differential as well right?
