1997 s10 pickup ls

Hey guys i was wondering how hard is it too change a heater core in an 1997 s10 pickup ls. Is there a guide i can follow or i needa remove the whole dash?

Sadly, the whole dash has to come out buddy.
I haven't done it myself, but I've been studying it for when I do have to replace the heater core.

Here's a how-to on pulling the dash.
95-97 are the same as 98-05, except they added a hidden screw for 98+ models

the case is underneath the dash is it possable to pull the dash put a little to replace it?

From what I've read, the whole dash has to come out.
Now, maybe it is possible to loosen all the screws / bolts enough to get at it.

If you have to loosen em all anyway, might as well go on and pull it though, so it won't be at all in the way.

You could bypass it for now, but with those cold NY days coming....

what happens if it is bypassed

You just take both heater hoses from where it goes into the firewall and hook them up to each other so the water can not circulate through the heater core.

Result is a non leaking heater core, and no heat.

The two hoses you need to bypass are in the second picture^

I don't blame you, it's a royal PITA from what I recall. Heater cores are one of the things on these trucks I won't even entertain fixing myself.
