Default 1st gen tail light trim

I've seen a few people that have done this but I was wondering does the chrome or black trim that goes over the tail light just pop off? It seems to look a lot better without it.

I always thought it was a part of the taillight. If it just popped on and off people would have just got plain taillights and added the trim later. Plus I figure if it was removable someone would make diffrent color ones to match the factory paint colors.

But I'm not sure, my factory taillights with the chrome trim have been sitting in a box in my building since November so I can't really remember right off. But there's only one way to find out.

Well, I figure it has to come off because I've done some searching around and from what I see no one makes one without that part but if you notice in these pictures neither one has the trim piece.

Yes it comes off. I've taken off a couple sets of the "chrome" to powder coat them black. You'll need a smallish flat blade screwdriver and a little patience.

The pics you posted are aftermarket ones, not stock.

Yeah, I noticed that after I talked to GregW last night I figured I'll just order me a pair.
