78 Blazer Rear window Crank replacement
ok so my crank died today.. i went to roll the window up and it doesn't work.. My window is stuck down.. And of course i can't pull it up.. What is the best way to get it apart to replace the crank?
|
you have to access the crank bolts from the big access panel on the tailgate, at least its stuck down so you can just open the tailgate and work on it. i dont know what position the glass has to be at to get at the two bolts though but im guessing with it down that might be a problem. but you can just take those two bolts off and the crank should fall right off if you can get at it.
i had a k5 where the crank was missing and i just used a tie rod pickle fork to roll up and down the window |
i looked at it last night and have to remove the glass or figure out how to raise the glass to get to that part.. But i'll wait. took it in today to have someone replace the carb (to lazy to do it) and they left a rag in the intake. after it started knocking and blocking rag fibers out. I get a free engine now

There is one position where the fasteners are accessible through the window regulator. Removing the glass is a smart way to go about it and one I would recommend having done the same thing myself when I replaced the entire assembly on my '74. The glass is held to the regulator by 4 small bolts. Once you have the glass out, you should be able to remove the regulator itself, then the fasteners that hold on the trim & handle assembly.

i got it off.. anyone know where to find this crank at? everything i find online is out of stock.

i was lucky enough to find a good used one off ebay years ago when i owned a k5

Have you tried LMCTruck.com pn 38-6678? That is where I purchased the replacement for my K5 from a number of years ago.
