Door Hinges 2000 Blazer
My Blazer is suffering from worn out door hinges on the drivers side. The aftermarket hinges I see are bolt on. The questions I have are :-
Has anyone put bolt on hinges to the body? Are the hinges welded all the way round? What is involved in this, as I see no way of getting the backing plates in without doing a bit of internal body panel cutting, and removal of the dashboard. Any help appreciated TinW |
Bolt on hinges involve a serious amount of precision work! Before you attempt it, consider this: https://blazerforum.com/forum/paint-...stalled-89003/

Not on my blazer but I once had a 94 suburban that had really bad door pins on both the driver and passenger side. I was going to do a bolt on replacement but heard that it's not something to attempt by yourself since you have to be really precise on the placement. So my alternative was to keep buying bigger door pins. Eventually the driver side door sagged so bad you would have to lift ands slam it shut. Finally I got rid of it before it became a major problem. I would say if you have good mechanical skills and are confident in your work. . Bolt on would be easier.

Many thanks Captain Hook and Bipolar. I will check out the oversize bushings, which seems to be the better option. Once I get the time to do it I will let you know how things went.
Again many thanks to both of you TinW |
I have done that repair many times, and there are three very important things: #1 make sure the hinge halves are square with the door and the body, (they like to bend downward near the bushing holes). #2 is make sure the bushings are straight before you start pressing them in. If they get cocked to one side, the bushing will distort while pressing and cause the pins to bind. #3 The bushings need to fit tightly in the hinge halves, they can not turn after they are installed. As mentioned in the link, it's best to get one package of each size so you have what you need. Keep us posted, and ask questions.
