This would be my suggestion as well, I changed mine out for blue LED's and it is so much nicer on the eyes and different!!!

That's what I have too. Somethings to do, you can paint the blue parts black/white or something. Instead of just using 194 bulbs install LED flexible strips. I put white face gauges on mine, but I now wish I hadn't. My only complaint with those are that the numbers are all a lot smaller.

I am not sure exactly on the gen1's but here is the bulb info I got off of sylvania's website:
Instrument-general
161
37
PC168
PC74

Check engine indicator
PC74

Hi-beam indicator
PC74

Seat belt indicator
PC194

Brake warning
PC74

Automatic transmission indicator
PC168

Directional signal indicator
PC74

Otherwise here is a thread on what I did, pretty much the cluster is easy. All you do is take the stock bulb and socket out and replace it with an Inverted LED of the correct base type (i.e 194/211/37/etc.). Plug it back in and make sure they light up and away you go.

My other thought is, depending on the wires you have for the guages you could get a metal filler plate and mount your own custom guages in it. I just saw this done similarly on the TRUCKS TV show on SpikeTV. They did it for this 50's Ford truck, but you could apply the same idea to your truck.

haha ya i was considering getting autometer gauges and replacing the whole cluster w/ them but thats a lil tooo pricey for me lol cuz led bulbs rnt gunna add up to a couple hundred dollars lol like new guages

if you want to spend some dough, im pretty sure that dakota digital makes a cluster for a 94. you probably will spend around 500 though.
