help!....restoring paint shine

Ok my Blazer is in need of some serious detailing, i need to restore color and
shine to it. i am kind of newbie when it comes to this type of stuff, so i have been told i to clay bar it to remove contaminites from paint and tuff water spots that dont want to come off. I've never clay barred a car before so i want to make sure i got all the right materials i'll need,the right steps and if i can get any tips on doing this type of job? I bought a mcguires clay bar kit which includes more than enough clay (160grams), mcguires detailer spray, armorall butter smooth wax, armorall liquid polish, micro fiber towels. does it matter if i mix brands? Are these the right steps? 1. wash car thoroughly and dry 2.spray detailer spray 3. clay bar where sprayed 4.dry 5.polish 6.wax Any advice or suggestions or not to do's will be greatly appreciated, or if u can find a full video of the steps online that would be great too! the detailer spray is mainly for after, I would clay bar the whole car,if you do just areas those areas will appear to be shinier than the rest of the truck.
So this is what I would do with what you have. wash it, dry it, clay bar the whole truck, wash it again, dry it, and wax it, use the detailer spray in areas like door jambs, or a couple days later if it gets dirty. I hope that this helps you. Looks like you have a real nice detail kit there. |

Did your clay bar not come with spray to prevent that? That is what I was assuming

Are you going to do it by hand or do you have an orbital? As far as claying, only spray about a foot at a time and hit the clay with some before you put it down and go in straight lines not circles. Once you get the foot done you can start misting down ahead of your hand and work into that area. like you've probably read if you drop the clay throw it away. If you had some scratches or tough tar spots then you'd hit it with a rubbing compound before the polish. But the steps you listed is the way to go. GL:icon_toast:

i posted the results on my thread but figured i wouldnt leave this unfinshed
so here are results. i took back that armorall wax and polish and got everthing Meguiars, such as car wash, clay bar kit, ultimate compound, ultimate polish, and gold class carnauba plus liquid wax. did it all by hand, had really tuff water spot and paint shine was shot. All i can say is i am now a believer in MEGUIARS and will use them for future jobs! Attachment 33755 the water spots after being already washed and dried. time spent was around 10.5hrs,8 of those were on the paint other 2.5 were rims,vacuming,and windows... |
