How can I fix this lift gate problem

:icon_shrug:These are images of the ball thiny at the top of the lift gate support that has rusted off. You might see I tried to get it off but it's really tight and I'm just tearing it up. Does any one know of an easy way to fix this? Please Help Thanks!

Kind of hard to tell from the pics whether it is tack welded or just rust on it. If you can't get some vise grips on it to turn it I'd just grind it off, use a drill and tap and install a new one.

Of course, that is providing it IS threaded in there.

Thanks for your responce

I don't belive there is any tac weld, the rust looking part around the left edge is from me trying to turn with a pair of vice grips.
I think your idea of grinding it down and drilling it out just might be the ticket.
I haven't thought of that.
It's kind of deep into the channel so grinding wouldn't be an issue but drilling it might be. I'll have to take a look.
I'll let you know who it went, Thanks for the idea.
