Leak coming from under dash
 

So every time it rains, I get a pretty good puddle at my feet by morning. I managed to take a flash light to it at one point and find out where the leak seemed to be coming from. I found that it wasn't the weatherstripping around the door but rather up under the dash apparently around the fuse panel area (which really concerns me). Here's a pic showing roughly the path of the water:

It's completely soaked my carpet around my driver's seat and is increasingly annoying every rain storm. this just started after winter ended. the only mod I had done is a remote start added on Dec. 26 which should have no bearing on this I would think. Where could this water be coming from and how can I fix it?

I looked under the hood and it looks like it could be coming in through where the hood hinge is located as the seal/grommet thing is almost completely eroded away. But it's the same on the other side and there's no water coming in over there. And that still doesn't explain how it's getting inside the cab?

The hood hinge does not go through the firewall/cowl.

Were any wires passed through the firewall at the time of the RS install?

hello to check for water leak take some of dash apart so you can see then get upside down into ft drivers footwell with a flashlight and have somebody run water over windsheld and hood/door area watch for path you should be able to narrow it down you are not driving it when it aquires the water then this is the same as a hard rain..First i would check the wiring path of the remothe starter it proberly goes thru firewall and has no gromet or sealer around it as it goes tru firewall.Has vehicle been wreaked? it could of had some cowl damage and the seam sealer is broke or cracked and needs recaulked if so you will need to remove fender for access. also the windsheilds will develop a leak over time if that is case have a professinal glass company remove it because it is urethaned into body it is considered a part of the safty restraint system. thanks and good luck jim

I don't know of any wires that went through the firewall. But I wasn't there watching them install it (Xmas gift). I wouldn't think they'd need to run anything through there. I went up in there with a flashlight and I couldn't see any obvious protruding wires that may cause a problem. How could water even get to where the wires go through the other side in the first place?


I plan on doing just that as soon as the weather warms up a bit and I have a chance to take out my front carpet and dry it. I'll look into the remote starter wires, but it was professionally installed by a trusted dealer and honestly they did a damn good job. I couldn't even find the wires with a good look under the dash (without taking anything apart). Truck has not been wrecked so I don't think anything has been tweaked out of place. The only body that has been done was when they fixed my driver's side front fender by welding a piece of metal over the rust (at least that's what it looks like. and yes I realize that's wrong but it was on the cheap).
