M/T shifter knob removal 2002

Hey all, I picked up a new shifter knob and before I do something to my current one I might regret later, I've been trying to find information on how to properly remove the stock one. I found a couple threads in my search stating it's a c clip system, but I can't for the life of me find the tab that's supposed to be there.

Does anyone have a M/T in this model year that might have some insight whether it might be screwed or press fit on? (or if i'm just not seeing where to access the clip, info on where exactly it might be?) Thanks in advance!

Bump... anybody?

My 91 had a jam nut under the knob, so the technician could properly align the shift pattern. The pics in the 2000 factory service manual are the same.
