New Rattle, is it the hood??

I may have the infamous hood rattle going on.......it actually sounds like metal on metal, maybe like a tail pipe just bumping the frame??? I checked all of the places I could think of, to make sure it wasn't anything that needed immediate attention.......

I checked the drivers side hood hinge [the rattle sounds like it is on the drivers side] and could not come up with any play in the hinge, not matter how i moved it, the passenger side had a very little bit of play and a rattle that may have sounded familiar, Instead of tearing into it, i put a shim in place to see if that would stop or change the sound, before i tear up the hood hinge...

I hope that is the problem.........these rattles drive me nuts........but only the ones that i can't find:icon_frown:

I had an annoying squeak when I first got my Blazer. It turned out to be the parking brake cable rubbing against part of the frame. I remember the sound was very hard to trace from inside. I even had a friend crawl around the back with the seats down to try to locate it.

I carry a bunch of tools in the back along with various other stuff, so i fight little rattles inside all the time, but i can usually find little rattles or have a pretty good idea of what they are ........not to mention the noise from the hollow plastic interior.......;-)

I did notice that the brake cable is stung pretty loosely under there, but i don't think my hearing is good enough to hear any noise it might make.....

I'll find a nice segmented concrete street today and give it a test........

I once used a microphone and recorder to find a rattle in an old chevy pickup, I guess i can do it again if i need too......

The bottom bolts on all four shocks [kyg's replaced about 18 months ago] loosened up just enough so that I could grab and twist enough to hear noise.....I torqued the hell out of them........and no more rattle...........

shocks are hard to check......they always have pressure on them ...one way or the other....

Hope some one else can benefit.......
