Default Painting interior plastic

This summer I am going to be wanting to freshen up the interior in the jimmy, its the light grey, finding a color will not be a problem, I am used to painting metal, so I do not really know the process of painting plastic, like the interior pieces. What is the process to do this. Thanks!!

I sanded, washed with soap and water, used 2 coats plastic primer, 3 coats color, 3 coats clear. It's been almost a year now. Still lookin good. All paints were rustoleum brand I believe.

i would go with some adhesion promoter, being as the plastics for our dashes are made out of polyoilfin plastics. i know i spelled it wrong but, the plastic has mold release in it and can make paint not stick so good. plus if you live in a hot area it will release the oils in the plastic just enough to make the paint not stick. went to school for this kind of thing.
