Patch panels for cab roof
So I’m hoping someone could help me out…I’m restoring an incredibly rusty blazer. The outer skin to the cab roof was completely rusted and was held on bondo so as I cut it off there was a metal strip along the back of the cab where the bolts for the hardtop go and that was almost all gone. One little piece was left I’ll add a picture for reference but does anyone know if this piece is fabricated and sold anywhere?

Pretty sure you would need to to fabricate that piece or find a donor vehicle. If you have the know how, and have access to a metal brake, and a shrinker/spreader (forget the name of those two tools) it wouldn't be too hard to make. That piece looks to be a filler/brace for the composite piece that goes over it. I would think any decent body shop, that can fabricate that is, can make one for a reasonable amount. The metal shouldn't cost much and the labor should be more than an hour. Pretty sure it is spot welded on there, so plug welds would be the way to attach it. If you don't know how to weld, that will be another expense.

I figured I’d probably need to fabricate it. I’ll probably just make it myself. I have a donor but it’s a C10 cab. Mainly got it for the windshield frame and outer cab roof skin. We’ll see what else I find that’s difficult to come by as I tear into this thing. Thank you for the response! |
Convert it over to a full convertible and all of that becomes part of the fiberglass top! All you need is the top portion of the windshield frame from a 73-75 K5 (good luck).
As AJBert said already, donor K5 roof section would be your easiest bet. There are far more of the 76-91 K5's out there to scavenge from than the full-verts. Fabricating these areas takes quite a bit of time & experience to get them right. I'm not saying that it is impossible, but can be very time consuming and expensive to get all of the tools to do it like the coach builders used to. |
