Phone mount on dash

I'm looking for a place to glue on a phone mount but the available spaces are only maybe 3/4" wide, probably not enough for a food stick. Most bases are 1" x 2" or so. The most convenient viewing place for me is right where the rear wiper switch is. I don't use those buttons anyway.

I'm looking for some ideas to use that space for a phone holder. I'm thinking cover the wiper buttons with saran wrap and then use some RTV and level it out with the dash molding. But then how would I get the RTV to stick in place? What other materials would work?

One concern is that I would cover the buttons only to discover that were permanently pushed down :-(
Another approach would be to remove the switches, is that a challenge?

So any diy ideas here? Thanks

So not the blank space above the rear-wiper switch?

A flat head screwdriver will pop it out easily. Be careful, there are tabs that can be pretty brittle on the top and bottom. Then there is a plug on the back ... The screwdriver will help remove that.

In s10 pickups, they have a more flush plate with a key slot for the passenger side airbag.
I would get one of those from the scrap yard, take the electronics from the back of it, if possible, and use that to mod.

One thing to remember is the column shifter might be close to your phone when you go from shift to park, or vice versa.

Yeah, why not use that big, wide open, blank spot? Instead of losing your rear wipers?

Good info I was afraid I'd have to remove the dash.

using the blank with the microphone would block some a/c and basically does not suit my gaze as well. It is my backup though.

I just noticed you had an Xtreme .... So that's a console shifter, right? Won't have to worry about my last bit of info.

Popped right out. Hole has a nice lip on it for a phone base.I might even be able to snake a usb charger wire through there.
