replace factory fogs with driving lights, 1st gen
I have the factory fog lights in my '91 S10 Blazer, with one lens having a nice pebble sized hole and a bunch of cracks in it, and both having relatively poor light output. Plus, living in Phoenix, we really don't have much issue with fog here :D, but I do see a lot of long straight sections of road at night when I get out of the city.
I know that I can replace the lens and reflector with the Blazer branded lights from Autozone/Wal-Mart/Harbor Freight/etc, but I also know from experience that the auto parts store/Wal Mart lights are generally garbage lights that look OK, but really don't add any useful light to the road. Plus, I'd really like to get a long range driving light in there instead of a fog/flood pattern. Are there any _quality_ lights out there that are known to fit the factory opening well? I know I'm probably not going to find anything that will retain the factory brackets, and that's fine. I can easily fabricate bracketry, but I'd really like to avoid chopping up the air dam, nor do I want some goofy looking little round light in either, lol. When I say quality, I mean something that actually provides useful light beyond the range the normal headlights, and something like a Hella, Cibie, KC, PIAA, etc. NOT the stuff you find on a Walmart shelf that tries to imitate HID lamps with a blue tint and costs $20, lol. |
