roof rack/tire holder..

id like to remove the spare tire carrier on the back of my blazer but id like to keep the spare tire. audio in the back permits it being in the back. so i was thinking of moving the racks together on my roof rack and strappin it down up there.. how would that look? any thoughts?

I think your best bet would be to buy or fab a roof cage. I wouldn't trust just strapping a tire on the roof and don't think it would look good, IMO

Mines on my roof! Look around on the forum and you will see a few guys with them mounted on the roof mostly in racks but a couple just on the factory bars.

I put mine on the roof and held it with bungee cords and it holds just fine!

Mines in a basket on the roof, a little overkilled on the security (made a 'hook' for it through a lug hole with a trunk mount spare hook from a Caprice or Crown Vic, some larger sedan) and ratcheted down for extra security.

I also added an extra pair of cross bars in the rack too so it can handle weight a little better too, but I just like roof rack cross bars...

well how bout this idea? cutting the tire carrier on the back where the tire bolts to and welding it to the roof that way it will bolt down and be secure.. or is the roof metal to thin and break easily?
