Tire carrier welded nut let go

How do I access behing the mounting points for the spare tire mounting brackets? Do I need to cut a hole?

abig84 02-26-2010 10:37 PM

to access the part where the hinge bolts to the body on the side? i think so. my 93 had the tire carrier and the interior has been gutted and roof cut off and i dont remember ever seeing any access panel or anything

Well this sucks... I really don't want to...

I would try to get at it through the wheel well. See if you can separate the sheet metal under there from the quarter panel or maybe just cut an access hole. I'm at work and can't go out to look at mine to come up with anything better.

There has to be some way in there. I have never removed one on an s-series, but there have been a few people that have added them on.

What can you see when you remove the tail light? How about up from directly under the truck?

abig84 02-27-2010 12:22 PM

There you go. Try taking the tail light off

I don't think there is anything under the tail lights. I've changed mine out and never saw anything of interest. But then again, I wasn't looking. :icon_shrug:

Now that I think about it, you might be able to get to it by removing the plastic trim inside. If you open the access to where the jack is stored I believe you can see the inside of the fender. Should be the same on the passenger side by removing the plastic panels and whatnot.
