Default 2010.02 ROTM - swartlkk's '74 K5

I never thought I would see the day when a K5 would win ROTM here! Thanks to everyone who voted for me!!

So, a little about the truck.

I picked this truck up for $500 in September of 2008. I coerced my father into driving down to New York City with me, taking his new truck with his flat bed in tow.

Stats:
1974 K5 Blazer
350cid v8 with TH350 transmission
Long tube headers into 2.5" dual exhaust
NP203 full time transfer case with the part time conversion
Dana 44 front - GM Corp 12-bolt rear - 3.73 gears
3" body lift to fit 33x12.5 tires - minor fender trimming.

It needed some work before I could register it, so it sat behind my shed for the winter/spring.

Over the summer, I put down some temporary sheetmetal patches on the floor to pass NY inspection, installed a set of headers, and welded up an exhaust system. I reused the Flowmaster Super 40's that were on the truck originally because there was nothing wrong with them and they sound decent enough.

I have gotten a number of spare parts for the truck, the most notable of which is a '90 Suburban that will provide the new motor, wiring harness, and complete dash for my '74. I will be upgrading to the TBI motor. The dash will be swapped and I will be moving over all of the A/C components as well. All of the swapping from the 'burb will give me power windows, power locks, cruise control, the TBI motor, along with A/C! I hope to get that project done over the spring/summer, but it depends on available shop space down at my dad's.

Other upgrades include a 14BFF swap for the rear axle as well as an 8-lug conversion on my Dana 44. I already have the 14BFF (free) and paid $30 for a 3/4 ton Corp 10-bolt front axle to pull the spindles on out off of for use on my truck.

I also have a set of rust free (mostly) rear quarters, some extra doors, and a rust free tail gate. I need to get the sheetmetal to patch up the floor boards & rockers properly as well. Once that is all in, it will be time for the finish body work and paint.

Anyway, here are some pictures of how it sits currently:
