400hp 4.3l is it possible how?

alright to start off i have a 2000 s10 with the 4.3l and was wanting to make high horse power with this motor. i dont want to do a motor swap either. so what mods would i need to do to make this happen. not including superchargers or turbos. i already have cold air and a single flowmaster. any suggestions would be awesome..thx

400hp n/a will be quite expensive. 400hp will be pretty easily achieved with boost and the proper fuel system.

yea stock 4.3's had only about 200hp out of the factory. i think if your gonna have to just bite the bullet and go big. forced induction is EXCELLENT. im still trying to do my homework on building my old 4.3 into a supercharged motor. the old typhoons were turbo and there wasnt any difference from a regular 4.3. they didnt even change the cams on them and made some pretty wicked power!

Good points. But Whats a forced induction system and why i would this make mote power? Is it costly?

Benedict1337 02-19-2011 10:10 AM

forced induction is a turbo or supercharger... I believe a supercharger is somewhere around $3000 and depending on the turbo kit you're looking at $4000+

will be alot more $ than dropping in a tuned 350

otherwise, unfortunatly the turbo is probably the best way

no, a decent rear mount turbo setup with fuel upgrade can be done for less than 1400$ and net 350rwhp with ease.. If you buy a turbo kit you'd spend alot of money, yes, DIY is ALOT cheaper than people realize.

It can be done, with proper bore compression and induction it shouldn't seem hard to achieve but remember the 4l60 isn't the strongest thing in the world. With 400 rwhp on my truck i've toasted 4 4l80's. I researched the rear mount set up and even purchased most of the kit when I had my 01 blazer. I'd try to find a 350 in all honesty.

while you can hit the 400 mark, it's very costly, and don't expect your engine to have a long life.

you making it live waaaaaaay outside it's normal boundries, and those 4-3 cranks are designed to fail (off-set throws suck!)

and those Typhoon/Syclone's weren't just a stock Z-code with a turbo system slapped on them.

they did have different cams in them, better rods, lower compression, etc, etc. talk to a performance engine builder, they'll fill you in on all of what is involved in building up a forced induction engine. since you didn't even kjnow what the term meant, i'd say you're in for a big surprise. especially in the pocket.

just to give you a little insight, i had built up a Z-code, made 273 RWHP and i spent just under 4 grand on it. didn't last long either (i think it broke around the 20K mark). when you stress parts beyound what even the tolerances have accounted for, things are gonna break.

seriously, why spend serious coin on building something that isn't gonna live long?

spend your money wisely, do a nice 5-3 conversion. wanna go big? do a 6L swap! :icon_drool:

and put some good money into the trans, no matter what you build.

yeah ....... I vote for the LS swap......... and I am not even a chevy guy, but I would love to have had a 6.0L LS in my old 82 FJ60 (RIP)
