96 - 98+ brake swap?
 

Digging around on the computer at work, i noticed the brakes on the later models seem alot beefier and there are more pad options availible. so i was wondering if a swap was possible?

is it just a knuckle swap? or is there alot more invloved?

To do the swap you need the newer style knuckle/spindle (don't really know the proper name. The triangle shaped kajigger where the ball joints and the tie-rods mount), the newer rotor and the newer caliper and pads. You should be able to reuse your hubs, however it would be a good opportunity to move to the newer style hub too if you want to replace those as well.

thats what it looked like. ill see what the local jy has and maybe make a small wright up on it if i get around to do it.

It's a good mod, especially if you have bigger rolling stock.

right now the wife drives the truck as a DD, once we buy her a new car ill start to mod it up and look at the upgrade. i just put new pads on it and saw the design. seems a little weak for the corrosion we see here in the salt lands of the north.

What do you have on the rear?

its drum, i actually like drum brakes. but when i lift it and throw tires on it i will probably find a disc rear end at a yard and pull everything. on the ford forums there is a rear disc swap that calls for changing the proportioning valves, however if you leave the drum valve in youll get a little more rear brake action. i'd assume its the same story on 90% of the brake systems out there.so based on assumtion ill probably use this to my advantage with the larger tires
