Diesel blazer.
Hey guys, im highly considering putting a cummins turbo diesel motor into the blazer, they have amazing power and those trucks are FAST with the right mods. any way tell me what u think, if its a good idea or a bad idea. im open for any critisizm
It's going to require quite a bit of work and you are going to have to use the transmission that comes with the engine you're getting. I'm betting that the I4 diesel is heavier than the v6 gas engine which may prove to be difficult on the front suspension. Next thing is going to be if the rear axle can handle the extra torque that a diesel produces...
On top of trying to get a drivetrain that will handle the new diesel, you are going to havetofabricate mounts for the engine and tranny, find of have cutom made driveshafts, figure out how to change over the fuel system to diesel eg. lift pumps, find an ecm to run the engine (unless it's mechanically injected) and firgure out how to get the information from the engine and tranny to relate to the gauges in your dash cluster. Very big job, it would be neat to see it done. I happen to have a diesel blazer but it's a K1500 and it came from the factory with it.
If you're just looking for power and perfomance look into doing a 350 V8 conversion, those engines are compadible with the V6 tranny's (unless it's a 2.8) and most sensors, modules etc are interchangable. there are many manufacters that make these kits, Hooker Headers are doing them now and also headers made for the V8 conversion.

I think a 4bt is gonna be just a tad bit too big to fit in a newer blazer engine compartment. I know its tough sometimes working on the wifey's.
If you get a 4bt with an inline pump on it, you can put compund turbos on it just like the 6 cylinder. i know of a guy who put a 4bt in a half ton suburban and hes got it to where he can take mustangs red light to red light with 6 people in it. Pretty sweet if you ask me. I think he also used it to trailer one of his buddy's pulling trucks to a sled pull a time or two.
