Drift automatic locker
 
Hey fellow Blazers :)

I am locking for some kind of locker, have read alot of threads and think i get the big picture.

1/
I lean toward limited slip differential but i like to drift a little sometimes and as i understand it cant take that kind of pressure, right ?

2/
I have bind up and down on summit and couldt find a single one of any kind to my blazer so i would be grateful for links :)

It is a Chevrolet Blazer zr2 1998 2door.

3/
I allso read the zr2 have G80 standard and it is difficult to find a drop in ?
Dont now if mine have had it but if it had it dont work anymore ;)

Find out if you have one or not look in the Glove box at the RPO codes, if G80 is listed there you have it, you should also figure out what gears you have, that will help a lot when looking at lockers. I believe Gu6 = 3.43s GT4 = 3.73s and i know there are some other ones

The G80 was a stock option for all blazer, If you can find one with the same gearing and you know how to re-install everything back into the differential its a simple swap. If its a different gearing you have to swap the ring gears so that they match your tuck (i hope i am right in all this). The only reason i haven't done this already is because i don't know how to properly re-install the components back correctly, i feel like i would screw up the spacing and destroy my gears. Just my input

Had to find the Glove box, have a minor electricel problem :icon_verzsilly:

It has G80 and it is a GT4, dont no if i will screw it up, but only one way to find out ;)
I have been stock 2 times and now i want 3WD :icon_steer:

wow that looks like a nightmare......if it says G80 then it has one, must be broken if its not locking. Good luck let me know what you do, perhaps i will follow in your footsteps

Think iam getting closer :)

I have decided to go with eaton, just to keep it manageable in my poor head :icon_nut:

I aint sure about anything so this cant be used as a safe guide and i gratefully receive any corrections from anyone so i can learn more about them and go with the right one :)


1st. Posi (lsd): For the young

I just had my G80 apart, or at least out. It's not as bad as it looks. I was able to verify it locked by placing the axel back in and giving it a hard 1/2 turn or so - all on the workbench. Best tip was use a magnet or magnetized screw driver to remove the c-clips.

Went in looking for play on one axel, found the magnet on the cover was broken, may have lead to some wear. Diff is ok for now, but I'm interested in this thread for the possibly near future :)

I have the auburn ected max in mine, limited slip when off, locked when on. works really well off-road for me, and is much more predictable on-road than the G80 was.

we have the GM 8.5" 10 bolt, 30 spline rear axle. It'll give you a good idea of what's available.

My G80 Is really finicky.. if im in a twist ditch it wont lock but when theres equal pressure on the tires and one has traction and the other doesnt it will lock. IMO its kind of crap, but it wasnt designed for off road, it was more designed for the "family" driving in the snow.
