Cold air intake.

Improve your intake and exhaust is one way to get more ponies.

i got rid of the factory air box in my 01 blazer and put in a genral fit k&n cone airfilter that seemed to get me an increase in power and mpg's, i got one for about $55 totally worth it.

i haven't done too much to my blazer yet, just a catback exhaust system. (bout $250)
thats-$300 definately what i would do to it first.
intake mods can help out your power alot.
buy a cold air intake, and yes get a heat shield. ($180-$300) dont buy just a general fit filter, its a waste if your wanting power.
Buy better spark plugs and wires. im about to buy some MSD wires and ngk plugs. (around $150) also changer your distributer cap and rotor, not expensive and will make your engine run better.
aftermarket mass air flow sensors do some work. they are about 3-400 hundered bucks though.
Another good thing you should put on top of your list is to replace your stock fan and get an electric one. should be like 150 bucks. your stock fan is turned by your crankshaft, less load on your crankshaft, means less load on your engine.
headers for your exhaust will help out alot.
thats just some stuff, hope it helps out!

First of all, what's your budget?

Cold air intake / heat sheild for performance. Warm air intake for MPG increase.

Gearing..3.73+ will give you a better acceleration

Supercharger/Turbo if you're loaded

Headers are an option, although gains are questionable on the 4.3

TB spacer is a gimmick

As stated, electric fans, run a search for E-Fan mod

street tires, properly inflated

Torque Converter

PCM tune. Check out wait4me or pcmforless they offer PCM tuning for our years for approx 150. They increase HP and fuel milage, aswell as modify different perameters for shifting, top speed limiter removed, torque lock up stuff ect.
