need more amps after adding E fans

Ok, I just completed a junkyard mod. I removed my clutch fan and installed a pair of E fans from an old Nissan Stanza ($50.00). I purchased a wiring kit from autozone with temp control via a probe through the radiator fins($37.00). Incase your wondering my mods are in pursuit of better MPG. I can't notice a difference in power, but I just filled up the tank and zeroed my trip counter I hope to see 1-2 MPG increase.

All is working well except a minor problem. The AC compressor seems to not engage for the first five minutes when first started, I tried this when cold in the morning and when off for thirty minutes, same thing. Also when fans are running and engine idles my voltage is lower, but fine when cruising. I'm going to guess that the current draw is causing a voltage drop affecting my AC clutch.

It just so happens that I replaced my alternator and battery two weeks ago and all has been fine so it's not a bad alternator. I went back to advance auto to see if they offered a high output alternator, according to their computer they only offer 105 amps which is what I have. So finally my question. Is there a high output alternator from another Chevy model that well bolt up without any mods? By the way my engine is central multible port injection.

Thanks in advance to those who responde. I miss the days when people at the autoparts store actualy understood cars, it seems that they only go by the computer.

I know exactly what you mean, but it's even worse when they think they are qualified technicians...
Nice mod with the e-fans, I've been contemplating this mod for my Blazer and My Caprice, I've already got fans with shrouds for both of them. I'm gonna get a coolant sensor though, how do you like the radiator type sensor so far?
As for the alternator, There are definitely bigger units available, but you may be offsetting you gain in MPG by switching to a bigger alt. Shoot hillbillyinohio a PM, and he should be able to recommend an aftermarket alt for ya.

I had to remove the fans.. Problems with my AC compressor clutch not engaging at idle, This past week the temp has been in the mid 90s and the engine has been running too hot for comfort. The fans had a nice shroud built into them. Long story short if you go with the fans you'll need to upgrade the alternator to a higher wattage. So how longwill it take to recover the money for nice fans and a highout alternator? I think some underdrive pulleys would be a better investment.
